About

“They are not teaching you how to think, they are teaching you how to memorize!”

These words were spoken to me by my father (right)all the way back in 1967. Yes, I’ve been around awhile.

I will provide the rest of the story later, but suffice it to say that those words have remained significant to me for the rest of my life. I never questioned him as he taught me about consequences as well! (lol)

Hi Bill aka Mr Howe!

I’m taking time to reflect and express gratitude to those who have had a significant in my journey of life and you are one of those people.

My memories of your true care and passion for instilling creativity and exploration are as fresh as those years in class. I always remember you for prompting me to find my path and explore my ideas. You would teach the tools but the real work came with the support and inquisition that help me create my own path. Never regurgitating syllabus, but rather getting me excited about every project and helping me realize my ownership and potential that each day could build upon the next.

I remember the late after hours you put in to support me and others. The time you spent teaching additional skills, software, etc. to enable curious students to go beyond typical curriculum, empowering us to take things as far as our time and creativity could allow, building confident and critical thinking.

At that age I was not capable of understanding the selflessness your above and beyond efforts support was; taking time away from your personal life or family to devote to student who would only be around for a fleeting few years. Today I fully understand, feel, and am a product of your contribution to education and wanted to take a moment in the busy daily life to say thank you. I appreciate you. You have made a significant impact on me, and there are many others who I am sure would share similar sentiment.

With gratitude,

Tony
